What Is General Surgery / General Surgery Procedures / Patient Instructions
About Dr. Vazquez / Our Philosophies / Administrative Policies

Dr. Richard Vazquez, M.D.

is one of the few remaining solo private practice general surgeons at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Attention to detail and personal one-on-one patient management is facilitated by not having a group of surgeons in practice together. In addition, I provide private practice general surgical care to patients as a geographically full-time faculty member (Assistant Professor of Surgery) at the prestigious Northwestern University Medical School.

Services Performed by Dr. Vazquez

Many patients referred to Dr. Vazquez for specific problems have asked him during the course of their treatment, "What other medical and surgical services do you perform?"

In addition to the services mentioned in the "About General Surgery" section Dr. Vazquez has also been active in the care of severely injured patients through coverage of the emergency room or by transfer of severely ill or injured patients to me from physicians who practice at other hospitals.

Since 1988, Dr. Vazquez has been the Chief Medical Officer of the Illinois State Police. In this capacity, he acts as the professional medical advocate for all of the state troopers, code personnel and their families.

There are some procedures that Dr. Vazquez does not perform. For example, his colleagues at Northwestern Memorial Hospital are a nationally recognized vascular surgery service which performs arterial reconstructive operations.

Please feel free to e-mail Dr. Vazquez with any medical questions,
